Concerning Vortigaunts Part Two

Professor Jenkins, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology
Notes Concerning Vortigaunt Subject #27, "The Messenger"

More time with The Messenger (aka Jack). November 21, 2009, as these things are figured.

-Jack relayed what has become the most popular folk tale of the Vortigaunts, concerning one they call The Free Man
-The Free Man has much in common with earth-myths of a savior figure, though the Vortigaunts do away with much of the sacrificial aspect
-They maintain that this Free Man will make a 'Second Coming', resurrected by some higher power

-The odd thing about this story is that Jack claims that this is but a recent development in Vortigaunt society
-It does pan out somewhat, considering that the Vortigaunts seem to have only lately won a majority of their freedom
-I find it odd that a major factor in this fable is a top-secret research facility on Earth, perhaps a way of incorporating their newest home into their oral tradition
-Odd, also, that they posit their savior as a Man, though it could simply be a way of making their Human friends feel important, as Vortigaunts are particularly sympathetic creatures

-Postulate: The Portal Storms could have sent humans to Xen, where the confusion might have been instrumental in beginning a Vortigaunt uprising, which they naturally attributed to the humans, only embodying them in a singular figure
-Is the Free Man an amalgamation of humanity?
-Jack says that there are rumblings in the connections to Xen, claiming that the time for the Free Man is close at hand

-I asked Jack if there were lots of eschatonic (end-of-the-world) myths in Vortigaunt history and he took great offense
-I tried to discuss it further but Jack clicked with his mouth and would not respond to any of my questions
-It is clear this Free Man story forms a core tenet of what would pass for a Vortigaunt religion; and it is, apparently, a very touchy subject
-Try to broach topic again in a few days, give Jack time to cool off (assuming Vortigaunts need such a thing)
